We decided to treat ourselves for our Golden Wedding anniversary and booked an Alaska Land Tour with Celebrity followed by a weel's cruise back to Vancouver in a Sky Suite on Summit.
It was all a wonderful experience but the real highlight was a trip for whale watching from Icy Strait Point. My wife asked the skipper of the relatively small boat on which we were to travel whether he could guarantee a sight of whales, to which he replied that he would never do that but that he had never been unsuccessful yet!
We set off with a full load of passengers and it took about half an hour to reach his favoured spot. During that time, we saw two large bears on the shore (in different places), something that those who went "bear watching failed to see and, after arriving at the chosen location, we were soon surrounded by hump back whales which put on a real show for us, constantly sounding, blowing through their air holes and diving to show their tail flukes. We were also treated to the sight of a sea lion swimming past and several Bald Eagles passing by overhead.
That was certainly a trip to remember and the whole trip was extremely enjoyable with superb accommodation, food and staff on the ship.

Yhe most enjoyable was a jazz violinist, both in a show with the resident company and performing solo

The best was the whale watching at Icy Strait point and the least satisfatory was a tour of Denali State park which was far too long with no wild life visible
