CELEBRITY GALAXY GREEK ISLANDS 11TH JUL 2008

cruised on Celebrity Galaxy on 10 day Greek Islands/ Italy cruise. We are sorry to hear that the Galaxy is being sold at the end of the year as at 2000 passengers, it is considered too small. We have sailed on this ship before and must say that Celebrity continue to offer high standards at a very reasonable price. The embarkation procedure was swift and painless, what a pity, however that you then have to wait several hours for yuour luggage to arrive. The superior outside cabin was fine with an attentive cabin steward and assistant. As usual food and service on Celebrity was of a good standard although buffet organisation was a little haphazard.
A few comments however
1.whilst there were 3 formal nights, there were no formal events, not even a Captains Cocktail party
the nightly show for second seating passengers was always pre-dinner at about 7.15pm, this is the nicest time of day for sitting on deck so as such most of the shows we went to were half empty. Why couldn't the shows be after dinner?
3.the ship was supposed to tender outside Mykonos, instead they landed about 2 miles away from the town. They then had the cheek to charge 10 dollars for transportation into town, money grabbing at its worst.

However those criticisms apart this was a very nice cruise and I would continue to recommend Celebrity as one of the best of the mid range cruise lines

Having done the same cruise recently (see my review), I agree in principle. I share your view about the sale of Galaxy, which seems fine to me in terms of size and facilities; I doubt that anything larger would enhance passengers' enjoyment, only the operator's profits. But I'm not sure that a 'Captain's Party' (of any description) would have added anything, except perhaps for a chosen few - and how would it be arranged? As it was, he seemed a pleasant enough man who made a point of speaking to passengers during the day as he wandered round. As to Mykanos, rip-off transfers (and excursions generally), enuff said! If the comedian was Rich Ceisler, I agree he might not appeal to all but he did to me!
