Galaxy - a class act.

We've just finished whart was possibly our best cruise yet aboard Celebrity Galaxy, round the Eastern Med for 10 days. Embarkation was a doddle - there was no-one there before us when we arrived at about 11.30am - and we were very quickly wandering the ship with our glasses of 'welcome aboard' champagne. And what a beautiful ship she is! Knowing that she leaves Celebrity's fleet next year made us fearful that she might not be in tip-top condition, but a refurbishment a few months ago has left Galaxy in beautiful shape and we definitely preferred her to Millennium and Summit. She has better styling and was most certainly cleaner.
The quality of the food and service also surpassed out previous Celebrity experiences, though we wouldn't bother spending the extra for concierge class again - you just don't get enough 'extras' to justify the additional expense, in our opinion. We were a bit disappointed by the onboard entertainment, certainly in comparison with Summit, who managed great production shows and a good variety of daytime activities. On Galaxy, there just wasn't enough to do and we were extremely disappointed on the sea days to find the cinema and theatre filled up with bingo, shopping talks and an appallingly bad 'enrichment' lecturer, whose embarrassing lack of knowledge of the ports of call in Greece was only surpassed by his lack of knowledge of Italy. Using a film that was more than 20 years out of date to fill up his time was disgraceful.
The ship's itinerary was exceptionally good, with long stays in each port of call. I believe one of Celebrity's new ships is taking over this route and would recommend it to others as a great way of seeing some excellent Greek and Italian places.
Our cabin steward was quiet and efficient and the quality of serrvice we received in the Orion restaurant was just superb - as was the food, which was varied and of excellent quality.
I would recommend Galaxy to anyone considering booking a cruise during her final Caribbean season.
Quality of Food5
Orion restaurant - excellent food and service. Summit staff take note - it IS possible for food to be served hot in the main restaurant!
Entertainment2
Production shows were only satisfactory, though the singers were good.
Shore Excursions5
Ephesus, Didyma and Miletus with lunch - the best tour I've ever taken. Bottled water and a little gift pack provided on your seat, superb guide who gave us headsets so we could hear every word clearly and a magnificent lunch.
Staff5
Charlotte Louisy of the activities staff. A lovely personality who worked hard, paid us personal attention and got us involved in things we wouldn't have otherwise considered. She made our cruise memorable.

Onboard Activities2
No - not much to do on sea days. We expected films during the day on such days.
Cabins4
A bit smaller than we had on Millennium and Summit, but it was well appointed and clean.
Overall Rating5
